“This practice brings me home.” - Syanne Patterson-Grey, London Based Yoga Teacher.

Growing up, Syanne (she/her) struggled with fitting in and it was still the same when first starting her yoga practice. It was a bumpy road navigating the modern yoga scene before finding a community that was truly supportive of her journey; one that helped her realised she didn’t need to “fit in” to belong. With over 15 years of practice Sy continues to cherish her growing community and views her practice as way to understand and grow with the changing world around her. Sy is passionate about collective liberation and advocating for access, inclusion and equity for the LGBTQIA+ community and marginalised groups within yoga and wellness. She believes everyone deserves to feel like they belong.

As a teacher, Sy offers support and guidance to build a practice that is empowering, that fosters community and celebrates our unique experiences. She does this by offering classes, workshops and facilitating spaces that centre community care and collective wellbeing. Her personal practice is led by compassion, curiosity and play.

Sy completed her 200hr RYS Teacher Training at the Wellness Connection, Cape Town in 2018 and her Embody Yoga’s Roots 300hr RYS Teacher Training with Susana Barkataki and mentor Linda Lopes in 2021. She has since completed the Accessible Yoga Training with Jivana Heyman and the Accessible Yoga School in 2023.

  • Employee wellness has become a strategic imperative for some of the highest performing organisations and companies. An increasing number of studies show the benefits of yoga in the workplace and comprehensive wellness programs go way beyond healthy and happy employees. These yoga programs are usually conducted through one of the three following ways:

    • Full subsidy: Employer offers the classes free of charge to the employee (highly recommended to show support and foster a better relationship between high-level management and entry-level employees)

    • Partial subsidy: Class fees are shared by employee and employer (also great to show support from high-level management)

    • Hosting: Employer offers a space in the office for the class time and employees individually pay for classes (this option is best fit for smaller corporation that have the space, but simply can’t afford any subsidies)

Book a consultation call with Syanne Patterson to discuss your personalised employee yoga & wellbeing plan.

Practice with me

Classes always start with a drop in, a quiet moment to check-in, to let the dust of the day settle and to find calm before our practice. Whether it’s your first time meeting Sy or you’re a long time client, Sy will always use the first moments of class to ensure you are given the space to arrive fully. From there, you may expect a blend of asana, free movement, strength and mobility drills, pranayama, meditation, philosophy and the occasional corny joke during a challenging shape. Classes are always taught in a way that centres compassion and accessibility.

“There is no rush”, one of Sy’s most used phrases, she invites a spirit of joyful ease into every step of the practice, always with the intention of kicking perfectionism and “busyness” to the curb. Don’t let her jokes fool you though, some of her vinyasa classes will still test your abilities (and ego). Overall, her teaching style is nurturing and light-hearted, providing a welcoming space for individuals to build confidence and explore an embodied practice at their own pace. Laughter and questions will always be encouraged!

“The success of Yoga does not lie in the ability to perform postures but in how it positively changes the way we live our life and our relationships.”

COMMUNITY, WORKSHOPS & EVENTS

Queer ‘n Cosy Club

Sunday 1st September 2024, Crystal Palace SE19

Welcome to our monthly LGBTQIA+ gathering where we come together to do very little. This is an opportunity to slow things down, to explore quiet practices such as restorative yoga, meditation, journalling and conscious breathing. A space for us to come together as a community and to take deep nourishing rest.

  • Mellow Vinyasa

Syanne has a lovely nurturing approach, the class is slow and calming. Thank you!

  • George

I've had a few sessions with Syanne now and I can only say positive things about her. She really helped with my lower back problems as well helping me progress from a complete beginner to being confident in most classes. As a beginner, everything was clearly explained and I felt really comfortable in an environment that can feel quite daunting. Her class was relaxed and felt more open and friendly than a lot of others l've been too before. If you want to get into yoga or you're experienced and want to push yourself, I couldn't recommend Syanne more.

  • Restorative Yoga

Absolutely lovely, relaxing class, kind and gentle instructor, we even got a cup of tea! I’ll definitely be coming back.

  • Moran

I wanted to do a private birthday class for me and my husband. Syanne taught us an amazing class in a place that I wanted, the park, she came early organized all in a quiet place with very quality equipment.

She is very professional and adjusted to your abilities and achievements.

It was very fun to do a couple class with different poses that challenge us together.

  • Zoe

Syanne is an absolute joy to be taught by. She is very attentive to my individual needs which makes every session with her extremely beneficial to my own progression and deepens my understanding of yoga.

Her communication is clear throughout so I find her sessions very easy to follow, but challenging physically! She has a lovely calming aura about her which makes it an absolute pleasure to have her as a teacher. I look forward to our next session every time!

  • Vinyasa

Really lovely instructor who was very friendly and helpful and I’ve learnt some different techniques to help me with some of the movements 🙌 I had a great class!

  • Ryan

We met Syanne after getting a quick response to our ad and now we are having a weekly class with her in the park, and would happily recommend her to anyone.

  • Mark

Thank you for yesterday's enjoyable yoga session, which was pitched just right. I'm feeling much better today and I think you can take a lot of credit for that.

    See you next Friday!

  • Restorative Yoga

It was my first time and worth it. The space, the instructor, and the class were amazing. I liked how intimate it was. I recommend.

  • Vinyasa

Syanne is the best yoga teacher. Her classes are playful, curious and refreshing. She’s super lovely and will make everyone feel at home. 11/10 ❤️

  • Restorative Yoga

Perfect calming, restful & relaxing class to end the week with!

  • Mellow Vinyasa

Super cool class, with amazing and creative flows. Very focused on particular areas. Also a lower gear flow which was perfect for a gloomy, blustery Sunday.

  • Yoga Foundations

I didn’t realise before attending but this is a workshop style class. Was great to hone in on one thing (in this case warrior three) and concentrate on what needs to be activated/how to get most from it. Will be coming back!

  • Mellow Vinyasa

Lovely relaxing practice with Syanne, she always creates a great space.
